St. Joseph's R U OK? Day Community Expo
St Joseph’s Cobram warmly invites local community service providers and groups to participate in our upcoming R U OK? Day Community Expo.
This event aims to promote positive mental health through community connection, open conversations, and collaboration in supporting the children and families within our community. We are planning to open the school to students, parents, and caregivers from 2:30pm–3:30pm, providing an opportunity for families to connect directly with local services and community organisations.
Our Goals
• Strengthen connections between families and local community services and groups
• Enhance community connectedness and wellbeing
• Help break down barriers to accessing support and opportunities within the Moira Shire community

Last week our school came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week (officially 5 – 12 July). A time when Australians recognise and celebrate the histories, cultures, achievements and continuing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
As a school community, we are reminded that learning about Australia's First Peoples helps us grow in respect, understanding and kindness.
This year's theme was "50 Years of Deadly." A large number of our FIRE Carrier Leaders held a short assembly where they reflected on the meaning of NAIDOC Week and challenged each student to:
- Learn at least one new word in the Yorta Yorta language.
- Show respect by listening carefully during NAIDOC Week activities.
Include everyone and be curious, kind and respectful as you learn together.
They demonstrated our school values proudly – Always Safe, Always Respectful and Always Learning. Every class also participated in some activities to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. There was lots of fun learning and discussion to be had!
Irvin House Visits
Our Year 5 students have been visiting Irvin House residents every Wednesday afternoon to join their Bingo game activity! The AFL theme has been very engaging, and there have been many laughs, stories and cheeky banter shared amongst students and residents.
We thank Bridget and Tania at NCN Health for collaborating with us to offer this program to our students. It has been a highlight of the week for many of us, seeing our students shine and strengthen their communication skills, confidence, empathy and care for others.
Most importantly, it allows our students to live out our Mercy values by showing compassion, respect, service and hospitality as they build meaningful relationships with members of our local community.
