Sacramental Program | First Eucharist

As previously reported, 10 of our Junior School students have this year been making the journey of discovery and grace in their celebration of the Sacraments of Penance, Confirmation and Eucharist. The addition of four students from St Virgil’s College rounded out the number and brought some lively and interesting discussions with them.

The preparation of the students was shared between the schools and the Cathedral Parish. Our school group met for lessons weekly, interspersed with Sunday Masses and meetings with other groups from the Parish.

On Sunday 30 August, the students attended the 10.30am Mass at the Cathedral, celebrating with Father Steven Smith, who had guided them throughout the year. The students were excited to know that at last they could join the full community of the Church by participating in their First Eucharist.

In a dignified and reverent manner, each child received the Eucharist from Father Steven and was the focus of prayer throughout the Mass. The prayers and smiles of encouragement from the rest of the Cathedral Mass community were much appreciated.

No doubt the students will be proud and excited to now be able to fully join in the celebration of the Mass and to truly do what Jesus asked: Do this in remembrance of me (Luke 22:19).
