Deep sea dive | Year 8E Art 

Take a deep breath and dive beneath the surface! 

Year 8E have been exploring the magic of the underwater world through acrylic painting. Our young artists carefully planned their compositions and experimented with colour, tone, layering and silhouette to create the feeling of depth, light and atmosphere. 

By blending tints and shades and gradually building up layers of colour, students transformed their paper into mysterious underwater environments. 

Silhouettes of sea creatures and the ocean floor were then added to create contrast and bring their scenes to life.

The result is a collection of atmospheric underwater worlds, each with its own sense of depth, movement and character.

Legacy of Light Exhibition | Acknowledgements

Now that the dust has settled, we wanted to acknowledge the many people beyond the Art Department who helped make our Legacy of Light Art Exhibition on Wednesday 19 August such a success.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the Presentation Sisters, whose courage, faith and commitment laid the foundations of our College. Their legacy continues to inspire our students and community and provided the heart of this very special celebration.

Thank you to:

• Our students for your creativity, energy, enthusiasm and generosity. Whether creating artwork, helping with catering, performing music or representing the College on Opening Night, you brought the exhibition to life and gave us plenty to be proud of.
• Staff across the College for the many ways you helped along the way, from catering and flower arranging to moving furniture, contributing music, sharing your lighting expertise, promoting the event, sewing hems, allowing us to take over St Peter’s Hall or simply jumping in when an extra pair of hands was needed. Your support made a real difference.
• SMC Archives and Margaret Rootes for your invaluable assistance with historical research and for helping us uncover the stories, photographs and people that shaped the Presentation story.
• The families of our students for your continued encouragement and support of our Visual Arts students and program.
• And finally, to everyone who contributed, both behind the scenes and at the 11th hour. Thank you. An exhibition of this scale is never the work of one department alone, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this celebration of 250 years of the Presentation story to life.
