Work experience success with Fairbrother

Two of our Year 10 students, Freya Dickman and Bree Scott, recently completed a work experience placement with Fairbrother, gaining valuable hands‑on insight into the construction industry. They loved every minute of their placement and described the experience as "outstanding".

Most importantly, the opportunity helped them see that a career in the trades is absolutely something they can aspire to as young women.

We are grateful toFairbrother for providing such a welcoming and inspiring experience!

The IMAS Work Experience Program is a three‑day, structured program for Year 9 and Year 10 students who are completing work experience as part of their school curriculum.

The program provides students with a hands‑on introduction to marine and Antarctic science, offering insight into what it’s like to work as a researcher or scientist in real‑world environments.

Students will explore IMAS research areas, facilities, and career pathways through a mix of interactive activities, site visits, lab experiences and field‑based learning, all supported by IMAS staff.

This program is designed to be both educational and engaging, helping young Tasmanians better understand the range of career opportunities available within the marine and Antarctic sectors.

The IMAS Work Experience Program is made possible through the contribution and support of IMAS academic staff.

Applications are competitive, and places are limited. Applications close at midnight on Sunday 13 September.
