SCIENCE WEEK
DAY 1 - YEAR 7 BUTTER MAKING
We had a butter-ly brilliant start to Science Week at KSC.
Our Year 7 students kicked off the week with some hands-on science, learning how to turn cream into butter with plenty of shake-shake-shakin.
Students discovered the science behind the process as the fat in the cream separated from the liquid buttermilk, eventually forming delicious butter. It was a fantastic opportunity to put their science skills into action - and a tasty one too!
And things got a little glittery with our Glitter Bugs activity! Students explored how easily germs can spread from person to person and why good hand hygiene is so important.
From glitter germs to butter science, Day 1 was definitely a hands-on success! There were tired arms, sparkly hands, plenty of laughs and, of course, some delicious homemade butter.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped us get Science Week off to such a delicious start, especially Krystal and Kelly from Burra Foods. What a great way to start KSC Science Week 2026!
DAY 2
What a day for our H2GP teams!
After a bright and early start, our teams headed to Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium in Traralgon to take on the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP).
H2GP racing challenges students to balance speed, endurance and energy management, while putting real-world engineering skills to the test under pressure.
Our teams Burra Flyers and Zero Gravity certainly gave it everything!
Results:• 10th (Zero Gravity) and 17th (Burra Flyers) overall out of 22 teams• Zero Gravity ended up 4th in their class• At one stage, they were just 10 laps behind the class leader!
Unfortunately, both teams eventually depleted their hydrogen and battery reserves, but they fought an incredible race right to the end.
More importantly, our students gained valuable experience in alternative energy, energy conservation, engineering, teamwork, cooperation, leadership and resilience. It was fantastic to see them working together as cohesive teams and giving their very best.

Your support has given our students an incredible opportunity to learn, compete and experience the future of clean energy in action, and to Paul, Kat and Jed from Gippsland Tech for their support in making this fantastic experience possible!
A special shout-out to Damien from Lavalla Catholic College for stepping in with technical support when our teams needed a helping hand. Your expertise and support were greatly appreciated!
Congratulations to our participating students - Lily Blundell, Ruby Culvenor, Asha Fawcett, April Jolly, Violet Jolly, Miley Mason, Bridget McLaren, Oscar Olsen, Mitchell Packer, Amora Panettieri and Arthur Sullivan.
We had a fabulous day and are already looking forward to next year's competition!
DAY 3
Today, our Year 9 scientists headed out into the community to share their enthusiasm for SCIENCE with the Grade 2 students at Korumburra Primary School.
Our Year 9's prepared and delivered a range of fun, hands-on mini science activities designed to spark curiosity, encourage questions and show our younger scientists that science is everywhere.
There were plenty of excited faces, lots of laughter and, of course, some amazing SCIENCE in action! We love seeing our students sharing their knowledge and inspiring the next generation of scientists. Well done, Year 9!
A huge thank you to Korumburra Primary School for welcoming us and helping make Science Week such a wonderful community celebration.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side today, and our regular rocket launch had to be called off. We’re incredibly disappointed, but the rain just wouldn’t let up for our finale! Until next year!

DAY 4
Our Year 8 students took their learning beyond the classroom with an exciting visit to a robotic dairy, discovering how science, technology and innovation are transforming modern agriculture.
Students saw robotic farming technologies in action and explored how automation, data collection and computerisation are helping farmers improve productivity, efficiency and sustainability. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect STEM learning with real-world challenges and discover the exciting career pathways emerging in agriculture.
A huge thank you to team at RACE for organising this valuable experience. We also sincerely thank farmers Ben Vagg and Damien Murphy for their warm hospitality and for generously sharing their knowledge and experiences with our students.
What an inspiring way to see how STEM is shaping the future of food production!
DAY 5
What an explosive way to finish Science Week at KSC!
Our Year 10 students wrapped up the week with an explosive Chemistry demonstration, exploring energy and chemical reactions through a spectacular display of smoke, colour, fireworks and carefully controlled explosions. There were plenty of oooohs, aaaahs, jumps and bangs as students discovered the science behind the reactions.
A huge thank you to Tim from Profire Pyrotechnics, a former KSC student, for sharing his expertise, experiences and passion for pyrotechnics with our students. And thank you to Mrs Witton for helping make our Science Week celebrations such a blast!
We certainly went out with a bang! Science Week 2025 has been a BLAST!
