Grade 3 | Blackwood

CLEVER CLASS

This term in Mathematics, our Grade 3 students investigated a range of different 2D polygons. We learned that a polygon is a closed 2D shape made up of straight sides. Students identified and discussed the features of various polygons, including triangles, rectangles, squares, circles and more.

Using these shapes, students constructed their own 2D models and experimented with joining polygons together to create new composite shapes. Through this hands-on activity, students developed their understanding of shape properties, spatial reasoning, and how smaller shapes can be combined to form larger, more complex designs.

We encourage families to look for polygons in everyday objects and discuss how different shapes can be combined to create new ones.
