Free to Flourish - Being Relational
For the last few weeks in our Wednesday Worship gatherings, we have been looking at attributes that we have in Lutheran Schools that help us to be ‘Free to Flourish’.
Wednesday’s focus was on being ‘Relational’. As the word suggests, we value relationships:
- Our relationship with God.
- Our relationship with creation.
- Our relationships with each other.
In the Bible we see the words "one another" many times, like "love one another", "serve one another", "encourage one another", "be kind to one another", "forgive one another", help carry each other's burdens", etc. In fact, there are 23 different "one another" calls. With all the "one another's" they are first a description of how God relates to us. God is loving and kind. God forgives us and helps us carry our burdens.
So... the call to relate to each other in a loving, kind, encouraging, forgiving, serving, way, etc. is a reflection of how God relates to us.
These "one another" calls are not just good words to say. They are calls that can be seen in action at home, in the classroom, in the playground, etc.
On Wednesday I asked for 4 student volunteers who believed they could recognise the "relational" value in action. Specifically, I asked for volunteers who believed they could recognise:
- Serve one another (Galatians 5:13)
- So encourage each other and build each other up (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
- Share each other's burdens (Galatians 6:2)
- Be kind to each other, tender hearted, forgiving one another (Ephesians 4:32)
Those 4 students then watched 3 pairs of students and 1 pair of teachers, mime one of those "one another" calls. Each student correctly identified which pair of students or teachers were acting out each specific "relational" attribute.
What a wonderful school we have where our value of "relational" is evident in our relationships with each other.
