Learning to stay safe, sound and fire-ready

Our Kinder Wallabies had some very big boots to fill this week, but luckily the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) was on hand to show them the ropes!

Students were excited to welcome Firefighter Todd from the TFS on Monday for a Home Fire Safety incursion, learning about the vital role firefighters play in keeping our community safe and exploring some of the equipment they use every day. 

They practised reciting 000, talked through what to do in an emergency at home, and received activity books and family resources to help build safer habits together. 

A crowd favourite was trying on real firefighter gear – oversized boots, the suit and bright yellow helmet, which sparked plenty of giggles as students discovered just how heavy (and enormous!) the equipment really is. 

The age-appropriate program will be delivered to our Junior School students over the next two weeks.

Year 5 leap into learning at Bonorong

Year 5 students hopped over to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary on Tuesday for an engaging, hands-on excursion that brought  classroom learning to life. 

They spent the day meeting some of Tasmania's most iconic native animals – from inquisitive quolls to gentle wombats, hand-fed the free-roaming kangaroos and even crossed paths with the striking Cape Barren Goose. 

Students also gained insight into how Bonorong supports injured and orphaned wildlife through its rescue service and onsite veterinary hospital. Staff shared the sanctuary’s approach to rehabilitation and long‑term care, giving students meaningful understanding of the vital conservation work underway to protect Tasmania’s unique species.
