Performing Arts

Welcome back to Term 2! It is wonderful to have our school community buzzing with energy again. This term, Performing Arts is shaping up to be a vibrant mix of music, movement, creativity, and whole‑school connection.
Whole‑School Spotlight: The Planets by Gustav Holst
For the first part of the term, every year level is taking part in a whole‑school Performing Arts investigation into Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Students will be listening, moving, imagining, and creating as they explore each movement’s unique character. This shared learning experience builds a sense of unity across the school and gives students a rich artistic foundation to draw from. If you’d like to dive deeper, you might enjoy listening to Holst’s The Planets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isic2Z2e2xs.
Our 1's and 2's have been diving into the fierce, stomping energy of Mars, the Bringer of War. This week, they took their learning a step further by imagining what kind of guitar Mars would choose if it suddenly became a person. Drawing on the sharp rhythms and bold musical character of the piece, students designed everything from spiky red electric guitars to heavy‑metal battle‑axe guitars and even flame‑burst designs. This creative task helped them connect musical personality to visual art and design, deepening their understanding of how composers use sound to express character.
Performing Arts Highlight
Our junior school (F-2) students have jumped straight back in, enthusiastically preparing a song to share at our upcoming assembly on May 1st. They’ve been practising with confidence and joy, and we can’t wait for families to see them shine on stage. If your child is in the junior years, we would love to see you at assembly from 2:30pm in The Stadium.
Later This Term: Folk Songs
As we move into the second half of the term, our focus will shift to traditional folk songs. Students will explore storytelling through music, learn about cultural traditions, and discover how songs help us understand our shared history.
