From the Foundation and   1/2 Classrooms

Foundation and Year 1/2

Students have enjoyed being back in the classrooms and have jumped back into their learning and routine with excitement and ease. It has been lovely to hear about the student’s holiday experiences and adventures.

We have begun the term with our Start Up program. The Start Up program is a wonderful way to settle back into school, routines and re-visiting our school rights and responsibilities and expectations in and out of the classroom. The term’s Start Up includes:

  • Recapping our Rights and Responsibilities at B.P.P.S
  • Learning Assets – re-visiting our term 1 focus on being a ‘self-manager’ and introducing this term’s focus of being an effective ‘communicator’
  • Cyber-safety lesson with a focus of being kind and respectful online
  • Respectful Relationships with a focus on problem solving and working together
  • Zones of Regulation with a focus on how we feel and events that may change how we feel
  • Marrung: The Easter Kulin Seasons and Values. The term we are focusing on ‘Respect’ of people and culture and the Waring Season

Our Term 2 newsletter has now come home through Compass and in a paper copy. We hope you find this resourceful to support your child at home. In this newsletter you can find our focus for the term for English, Maths and our Integrated unit. There is also important term dates for your calendar and a reminder of our home learning in the junior grades.

We have been playing a Maths game the last coule of weeks in Grade 1 & 2 called 'Get out of my house'. It is a fun interactive game which incoroprates addition, subtraction and strategic thinking. You require a game board, deck of cards and 7 counters per person to play. Here is a video on how to play the game and the template we used. Ask your child to be the 'mini-teacher' and show you how to play. It has definitely been a favourite game in the classrooms!
