Parent Corner

The next series of Parent Corner articles will focus on the science of learning and how you can work in partnership with the school to complement your child's learning.
The Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0) is a revised statewide framework designed to strengthen teaching quality and improve student learning outcomes across all Victorian government schools. Announced in 2024, it is grounded in cognitive science, neuroscience and educational psychology, and was developed
in partnership with the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO).
At its core, VTLM 2.0 emphasises explicit teaching, supported by structured planning, clear modelling, guided practice and opportunities for students to apply new learning with feedback.
The model replaces and streamlines earlier frameworks to provide greater clarity and consistency across the system.
There are 4 Elements of learning that support the framework.
- Attention, Focus and Regulation
- Knowledge and Memory
- Retention and Recall
Mastery and Application
In the next newsletter I will begin to unpack the first Element of Learning - Attention, Focus and Regulation.
