Foundation
Students listened to the story 'ANZAC Ted'. It is about a man who went to war and packed his teddy bear to keep him company. Students concentrated on developing their scissor skills and practised cutting on a line. Students used paint sticks to add texture to the paper. Split pins were then added so the teddy bear can move. A bandaid was added to the head as ANZAC Ted was injured during his time at war. These are on display near the main office.
Grades 1 and 2
Students listened to the story 'ANZAC Biscuits' and made connections with the illustrations. Students discussed the importance of the red poppy and then made their own poppy. Using a circle of white paper, students used red paint to paint their hand. Then they printed their hands around the circle to make the petals. A black circle was added for the centre of the poppy. The poppies are on display near the Grade 5 and 6 classrooms in the main corridor.
Grades 3 and 4
Students discussed the importance of ANZAC Day and made their own connections . Many students mentioned the red poppy. A field of poppies were created by the students. A background of the sky and ground was made using paint sticks and applying water to create a watercolour effect. Red tissue paper was glued onto the paper using PVA glue and while the paper was wet, students could manipulate the paper to create the poppy flower. A black centre was added and then students could decide whether stems and leaves were included.
These are on display in the main corridor near the library.
Grades 5 and 6
Students listened to the poem 'In Flanders Fields'. Students discussed the importance of poppies. Students created a multi media trifold artwork using collage, paint sticks, textas and pencils.
These are on display in the main corridor near the library.
