Teaching and Learning in Practice

Year 3/4
Throughout Term 1, our Year 3/4 students explored commemorative and cultural days through creative, hands‑on projects. Using occasions such as Easter and Diwali as inspiration, students researched the meaning and traditions behind each celebration and expressed their learning through art, craft, writing and design.
These projects encouraged curiosity, creativity and cultural understanding, while supporting students to make connections between different traditions and their own lives.
Year 5/6
Our Year 5/6 students became authors as they crafted short stories centred around an unexpected emergency and a story based on a short clip titled 'Penguins'. Using vivid descriptive language, they brought intense moments to life—sirens echoing through the streets, hearts pounding with fear, and brave characters making quick decisions under pressure.
Through carefully chosen adjectives, strong verbs, and sensory details, students learned how effective description can draw a reader into the action and build suspense. These engaging stories showcased not only their creativity, but also their growing confidence as imaginative and expressive writers. See some examples of this excellent creative writing below.
