HSC Visual Arts Workshops
Year 12 Visual Arts students were fortunate to receive specialist guidance recently from filmmaker Chris Anderson, an emerging practitioner whose commercial and personal projects span documentary, advertising and experimental film. Chris - son of former Visual Arts Leader of Learning, Mark Anderson - worked closely with students in Years 11 and 12, generously sharing his expertise and industry insight.
Currently exploring glitch aesthetics and hybrid analogue/digital processes, Chris introduced the students to new ways of thinking about film as both a technical and conceptual artform. Year 12 students developing film-based Bodies of Work expressed how valuable the workshop had been:
'He assured me in my ways of thinking, supported my ideas, and reinforced the importance of developing an individual voice.'
And another reflected:
'Chris showed me that the creative process in filming requires just as much tuning as creating. His idea that every shot should ask a new question or answer a previous one encouraged me to consider the script and film through the lens of the audience.'
Ex‑student Henrik Hogg also spent time working with the boys in photography as their expressive form. A high‑achieving Visual Arts student during his time at the College, Henrik’s photomedia work was shortlisted for ARTEXPRESS. He generously shared his expertise, supporting students as they refined their concepts and developed their ideas in practice.
