Palm Sunday: A Time of Reflection, Peace, and Hope
This coming Sunday, Christians around the world will celebrate Palm Sunday, the day that marks Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. According to the Gospel accounts, Jesus was greeted by crowds waving palm branches and laying them along the road - a gesture reserved for a long‑awaited king. Their joyful cries of 'Hosanna!' expressed praise, hope, and a longing for renewal.
Palm Sunday invites us to reflect not only on the humility of Jesus but also on the message of peace that His journey represents. In our world today - where many communities face uncertainty, conflict, and division - the story of Palm Sunday offers a gentle reminder to seek peace wherever we can. Even small acts of kindness, understanding, and patience within our school community can help create a sense of calm and connection.
As we approach Holy Week, may this celebration encourage us all to become instruments of peace. Whether in our friendships, conversations, or daily choices, we are each capable of bringing light and hope into our shared spaces. Palm Sunday reminds us that peace often begins with simple gestures, just as the crowds welcomed Jesus with palms and open hearts.
Loving God,
As we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem,
fill our hearts with peace and our minds with hope.
In a world longing for calm and understanding,
guide us to be peacemakers in our school, our families, and our communities.
Help us to act with kindness, to listen with patience,
and to bring comfort to those in need.
May this Holy Week inspire us to walk with compassion, courage, and joy.
Amen.
Term 1 Upstanders
On Tuesday we were very pleased to host a morning tea for our upstanders in Term 1. Being an upstander means taking action, not just being a bystander. It's about speaking up when we witness someone being teased, bullied or mistreated. It's about extending a helping hand to someone in need. It's about standing up to injustice in all its forms.
This term we had 28 students nominated as being upstanders for a wide range of actions such as: going out of their way to do an act of kindness to help other students, for including new students in games at recess and lunch to make them feel welcome, for picking up rubbish without being asked, for assisting a peer who was in distress, for mentoring vulnerable students on a weekly basis, and for helping a lost student find his way.
Start of Term 2 - winter uniform
A reminder that students are to return in Term 2 wearing full winter uniform. This includes the college blazer, shirt and tie, long grey pants with black belt and the college grey jumper for extra warmth, along with black or grey socks and polished black leather school shoes. Please see the Uniform Shop page for details on holiday opening times.
The college uniform also includes the college backpack. The sports backpack issued for sporting tours is NOT part of the college uniform from Monday to Friday. It can be used on weekends or sporting tours.
Year 12 Assessments
Our Year 12 exams have begun smoothly this week. Students have shown focus, calm, and determination, and exams will continue into next week. Please keep our Year 12s in your thoughts and prayers as they continue through this important time. May they feel supported, encouraged, and strengthened each day.
Bishop of Broken Bay Appointed to the Vatican
The College was pleased to hear that Pope Leo XIV has named Bishop of Broken Bay, Anthony Randazzo as the Prefect of the Dicastery of Legislative Texts. The Pope has also granted him the personal title of archbishop.
The archbishop will remain in Broken Bay for the next three months as Apostolic Administrator before moving to the Vatican to begin his new role.
We offer our prayers for him as he takes up this important role in Rome.
Sport this weekend
We have trial games against St Aloysius' this Saturday. This is the first official trial for most teams. Best wishes to all our teams as they commence the winter season.
Our ISA tennis players will also be playing in the SPX Tennis Championships. Good luck to all these players in this yearly championship.
