From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

With the conclusion of the summer sporting season last weekend we have now transitioned into our winter sports, with trial games for rugby and football this Saturday. Please ensure that your sons are fully equipped with the correct attire to play their winter sports.  This includes any protective equipment required.

Good luck to our ISA tennis players as they compete in the SPX Tennis Championships on Saturday.  These championships form part of the trials for our players in setting their teams.

As with any activities, there are inherent risks with playing sport for the college. Please take the time to familiarise yourselves with the attached risk warning document for playing sport with the college.

Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Chess

Chess Players for Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 are in high demand. If you have not enrolled for chess as yet then please do so. At this stage we do not have enough students to field teams in Year 10, 11 and 12.

Training continues for Senior Chess. Students are warmly encouraged to come along to a training session and give it a try.

  • Time: 3:15 pm – 4:30 pm

  • Location: D Wing, Rooms 1-4

  • Schedule: Training runs every Monday afternoon during Terms 1 and 2

Chess Tournaments will begin in Term 2 and will be held on Friday afternoons from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

All welcome.

St Pius X U15 Yellow – End of Season Wrap Up

Gallery Image

The St Pius X U15 Yellow team finished a fantastic season placing 3rd in the regular competition, a great achievement that reflected the effort, teamwork and commitment the boys showed every week.

Their season came to an end in a hard-fought semi-final against Seaforth, where the boys battled right until the final ball but ultimately fell 26 runs short. Despite the result, it was an exciting match with some excellent individual and team performances.

A highlight of the innings was a strong 50-run partnership between Flynn McInerney and Liam Hincksman, including a huge six from Liam that had the crowd cheering. There was also a valuable 40 run partnership from Will Tully and Freddie Gosling, helping keep the scoreboard ticking over and the team in the contest.

In the field, the players produced some outstanding moments, including spectacular catches from Flynn McInerney and Luka Hilton, showcasing the team’s energy and determination.

Across the season there were many standout contributions. Luka Hilton thrilled spectators with an impressive 11 sixes, while Ollie Pile led the bowling attack with a fantastic 22 wickets and Josh Perry scoring 421 runs at an average of 210.

Most importantly, week after week the team demonstrated great sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience, representing St Pius X with pride.

While the semi-final didn’t go their way, the boys should be incredibly proud of a wonderful season filled with strong performances, great partnerships and memorable moments. A big thank you to the players, coaches, and families who supported the team throughout the year.

Well done boys on a fantastic season.

Thank you to Mr Steve Callow for all the support and encouragement he showed the team throughout the year.

Squash

What a great way to finish the summer season all together at Thornleigh Squash Centre. Having every team playing in the same venue made for a special morning, and it was wonderful to see the strong support across our community. A big thank you to Mrs Samantha Hood for her ongoing support of our students throughout the summer squash program. Her guidance each week at Thornleigh has been greatly appreciated.

Finals Day is always a big occasion, and our teams did the College proud. While not all results went our way, every tie was closely contested, with only a handful of points deciding the final outcomes.

I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all the parents who have supported the teams throughout the season. Your positive encouragement and friendly conversations each week have helped create an enjoyable and welcoming competition environment for everyone involved.

Please keep an eye out for information regarding Winter Squash, which begins in Term 2. Spread the word to friends so they can join the SPX Squash Team. Squash is a fast, fun racquet sport that challenges both your movement skills and your mental toughness.
