Student Insurance:

Parents need to be aware that the school and the Department of Education do not carry insurance against student injury/accident or personal property.

A number of private companies offer such insurance to individual families at very reasonable rates.

The Department has asked that the following statement be made available to parents:

"Parents/carers of students, who do not have student accident insurance, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs; and

Parents/carers can purchase insurance policies from commercial insurers.

The Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property, students should be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school."

8.00am to 3.30pm Friday

If you would like to make contact with a staff member, you may either call the office to be put through to their voicemail, email them through your Compass profile or send an email to: Elisabeth.murdoch.co@education.vic.gov.au with attention to the required staff member. All emails to the College email will be forwarded on.

If you need to meet with a staff member please make contact with them to book a meeting time prior to attending at the College to ensure they are available at that time.

Before and after school supervision parent notification:

Student safety at Elisabeth Murdoch College is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: The Elisabeth Murdoch College Bus Bay is supervised from 8am each day.

After school: The Elisabeth Murdoch College Bus Bay is supervised from 3pm to 3:50pm each day.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

Traffic Safety

As a community, we seek your support to ensure the safety of school children is a priority. This is especially important in the peak morning and afternoon periods.

Please be aware that Police will be increasing their presence around the College. We seek your support to ensure you are obeying road rules, this includes:-

Not exceeding the maximum 40kmph speed limit during designated school times
Not stopping in the bus bay on Warrandyte Rd to let children out of your vehicle
Not performing illegal U-turns
Stopping at school crossings (which are controlled by Council School Crossing Supervisor staff)

Student behaviour at the Bus bay and on the Buses:

Student behaviour at the Bus bay:

Students are continuously walking on the wrong side of the safety rail when the bus is approaching the terminal- this is not acceptable behaviour and could potentially cause an accident. Students are to remain on the footpath behind the barrier at all times.

Student behaviour on the Bus:

Bus drivers have the right to stop for up to 10 mins per bus stop if students are deemed too loud on the bus which is a distraction to the drivers. Students need to RESPECT the bus driver and be quiet, if not, they will be delayed by 10 minutes until they are quiet so that the bus driver can concentrate on driving.

Conveyance Allowance:

The conveyance allowance is a contribution towards transport costs and is not intended to cover the full cost of transporting children to and from school.

The conveyance allowance may be available to students attending government or non-government schools and:

travelling by public transport or by private car, motorbike, bicycle or bus, and

whose nearest school is not serviced by a free school bus provided under the School Bus Program

Students must meet specific criteria e.g. Reside 4.8km or more from the school and student is attending their nearest appropriate school/campus among others.

Annual privacy reminder for our school community

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy https://www.emc.vic.edu.au/?page_id=364 describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn. We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education, please contact the college.

Child safety and wellbeing at Elisabeth Murdoch College:

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Reducing traffic congestion

To keep our community safe on the roads surrounding the College please ensure you follow these guidelines:

Do:

Suggest your child to walks or rides to school if you live a close distance to the College
Utilise the local bus services- please see our College website page for the bus timetable
Collect your child from the Langwarrin Hall on the corner of Warrandyte Rod and Cranbourne-Frankston road ensuring they cross that road following the crossing supervisors instructions.

Don’t:

Do not drop off children in the left turning lane that enters into the College - this is also a Bus bay- it is NOT a drop off zone.
Do not dop off or pick up children at the Langwarrin Community Centre or the Carwash (opposite the College).

Boom Gates:

As part of our traffic management plan the electronic and secured boom gates are activated at the entrance of the bus bay entry and exit of the College grounds.

Parking

We kindly remind all parents and guardians to adhere to both respectful and legal parking practices when visiting or near the school premises. Respectful parking involves:

Avoiding Blocking Driveways: Please ensure that driveways and access points to residences and businesses are not obstructed by parked vehicles.
Being Mindful of Pedestrians: Pedestrian safety is paramount. Please refrain from parking on sidewalks or in a manner that forces pedestrians to walk on the road.
Following Traffic Regulations: Obey all traffic signs and regulations, including no-parking zones, handicapped parking, and loading zones.
Consideration for Neighbours: Remember that Cranhaven Road is a shared space. Being considerate of our neighbours ensures a harmonious relationship with the local community.

Legal parking practices are not only a matter of courtesy but also ensure the safety and accessibility of all community members.

By respecting these guidelines, we contribute to a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.

The Langwarrin Community Centre and Carwash (opposite the College) have raised their concerns about parents/carers that are using their car parks as a pick up/drop off point. Both the Langwarrin Community Centre and the Easy Wash would like to respectfully request that EMC parents find an alternate place to collect their children.

Do not use their carparks as a pick up and as a pick up/drop off point.

We would also like to reinforce that all traffic must adhere to the local speed limit traffic signs especially the 40Km speed limit during school times.

2026 Curriculum Contributions

2026 Curriculum Contributions including electives are now available via the Payments Centre in Compass. The Payments Centre is located on the front page when you open the app or at top right when looking at Compass via a laptop.
