Principal Message

Dear Families and EMC community

It has been a productive and rewarding end to Term 1, with a number of important learning opportunities for both our staff and students.

Earlier this month, we were pleased to welcome Tom Sherrington to the college to work with our staff on Instructional Coaching with WalkThrus, with a particular focus on Securing Attention. Tom is a highly regarded educator and author, widely recognised for his work in building teacher capacity and improving classroom practice. He specialises in evidence-informed approaches to teaching, with a particular focus on practical strategies that help teachers strengthen instruction, engage students, and achieve consistent outcomes across classrooms. This was a valuable and practical professional learning experience, closely aligned with our ongoing focus on strengthening classroom practice and consistency. We were also proud to host colleagues from several neighbouring schools, which provided a great opportunity for professional collaboration and shared learning across our network.

Our Year 7 and Year 9 students have now completed the NAPLAN assessments, with approximately 600 students participating. I commend our students for the calm and mature way they approached the testing period. While NAPLAN is only one measure, it provides useful information to support our understanding of student progress and to inform our teaching moving forward.

Our Year 7 cohort has recently returned from camp at Alexandra Adventure Resort. For many students, this is a highlight of their first year of secondary school. The camp provided a range of opportunities for students to challenge themselves through activities such as the high ropes course and flying fox, while also building new friendships and developing a strong sense of connection to the school community.

Some of our Year 10 students have also been undertaking work experience placements. This is a highly valuable component of their learning, offering insight into potential career pathways and helping students develop important workplace skills such as communication, responsibility and independence. These experiences play an important role in supporting students to make informed decisions about their future pathways.

We also recently held our Open Night, and it was wonderful to see the college so well represented by our students and staff. There was a strong sense of pride in the way our Middle school programs, opportunities and facilities were showcased to the community. For those who were unable to attend, or who would like to learn more, I encourage you to book a school tour via the college website.

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing commitment and support. I wish everyone a safe and restful holiday break and look forward to a positive and successful start to Term 2.

Kind regards,
