Our Learning for Weeks 6-7

What a great turn out for the Teddy Bear's Picnic last Friday! The preps had a great time and it was so much fun decorating biscuits, playing games and dancing around with them all. Events like that provide lovely little memories for everyone involved.

In English, students will:

  • continue to learn the days of the week through our morning routines.

  • review reading and writing /Mm/, /Ss/, /Ff/ and /Aa/ and identify where the sound is in simple CVC words.

  • learn to read and write phonemes /Pp/, /Tt/, /Cc/ and /Ii/ and identify these sounds in simple CVC words.

  • continue to explore poems and identify words that rhyme.

  • identify adjectives that describe emotions using poems.

Over the coming weeks, school readers will begin coming home with Prep students. Before readers are sent home, students first practise learning all phonemes and then move into segmenting and blending these sounds to read simple CV and CVC words. This foundational work is essential and is the reason readers may be coming home a little later than some families may have expected.

We encourage families to establish a regular reading routine at home, even if it is just a few minutes each day. Reading together is a powerful and enjoyable way to support your child’s confidence, fluency, and love of reading.

In Maths, students will:

  • continue to use the 100 days of school chart to count and order numbers.
  • continue to develop place value understanding through subitising, using a range of manipulatives and strategies such as counters, tens frames, and dice.

In Inquiry, students will:

  • identify ways to care for and include others
  • identify different emotions that their friends may experience at school and practise appropriate ways to respond with kindness, care, and understanding

In SEL, students will:

  • continue their journey through the Kindness Kingdom, learning about identifying emotions of others and ways to show kindness.
  • listen to and discuss a story book about feelings and emotions.
  • act out different feelings and practise what to do and how to respond in different school situations.
  • will receive their Emotion Detective badge to celebrate their ability to recognise how others feel and show good friendship.

News and Reminders:

  • Sharing Photos of Our Preps.

We would love to start sharing photos of the Prep students taking part in their learning activities at school. If you haven’t returned your child’s Media Consent from, or if your form wasn’t completed correctly, please check with your child’s teacher to confirm whether photos of your child can be taken. This ensures that only children with permission are photographed.

  • Stay Updated on Your Child’s Learning.

Please check Compass regularly to see information about your child’s assessments and progress. Compass also keeps you informed about important events and any changes at school.

  • Wrapper Free Wednesdays.

As part of our focus on sustainability and keeping our school clean, students are encouraged to fill their lunchboxes with wrapper free food items. On Wednesdays, we count the number of students with wrapper-free lunch boxes, and the classroom with the most wrapper-free lunches wins a prize. This is a fun way to encourage students to care for the environment!

  • Week 7 (Monday 9th March) Labour Day Long Weekend. NO SCHOOL for students.
  • Week 8 (Friday 20th March) Harmony Day. Wear a touch of orange to school.
  • Week 9 (Monday 23rd March) Family Fun Night. 3.30-5.15pm on the synthetic oval.
