Principal's Message
Linda Buckeridge: Principal

This week we held the first School Council meeting for 2026. These are held eight times a year on Tuesday evenings. This year we welcome 5 new councillors and continue to work with 5 returning councillors. The first meeting of the year is always the AGM convened by myself as Principal. This enables the office bearers to be elected. As a result I would like to congratulate the following councillors nominated and appointed to these roles:
President: Carmen Powell
Vice President: Jason Ellery
Treasurer: Maya Pinn
Secretary: Ahmad Tausif
Councillors: Phil Arnold, Kathryn Muscat, Emma Zach, Michelle Ewing, Elise Quirk and Stewart Johnson.
I look forward to working with everyone to ensure the continued growth and positive trajectory of Hillsmeade Primary School.
Recently you would have received a new consent form to update your child's media consent. This form was quite different to the past, requiring all 3 boxes to be ticked by parents/carers if they give full permission for their child to have their image used for school purposes. If you have not returned this form, or wish to update the consent, please ensure you return the form to the school and/or email the school with any updates. Without consent your child's image cannot be used at all for school purposes such as in the newsletter, at assembly, at graduation, in Facebook posts, in the classroom, on posters etc.
As per the last newsletter - Please note our annual Family Fun Night will now be held on Monday 23rd March at the same time of 3.30pm - 5.15pm.
Apologies for the change, but with proposed strike action scheduled for that day we thought it would be better to plan ahead!
Thank you for your understanding.
As you may be aware NAPLAN commences next week for our Year 3 and 5 students. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum, and allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with more information about students’ educational progress. Students will take part in four assessments: Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy.
At Hillsmeade the testing dates will be Wednesday 11th - Writing, Thursday 12th - Reading, Friday 13th - Conventions of Language and Monday 16th March - Numeracy.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's class teacher.
We wish all of our students the best of luck!
A reminder to families and students that the two colours for the Hillsmeade uniform are navy blue and red. ALL clothing should please be in these colours including pants, skirts, shorts and accessories including hijabs, scarves, gloves etc.
We have had some terrific experiences for students over the last couple of weeks, including a number of our senior students competing at the District Swimming competition. We are very proud of all competitors and were excited to come 3rd overall as a school.
We also had the Prep Teddy Bear Picnic, enabling our prep families, students and staff to connect through a variety of activities, revolving around their special teddy bear friends. It was a day full of giggles, eating treats and getting to know each other that little bit better!
Lastly, on Friday we had our special presentation assembly where students were awarded badges for specific roles across the school. These included: Student Leaders, SRC members, Wellbeing Ambassadors and Marine Ambassadors. It was a lovely opportunity to acknowledge those who wish to lead in various roles throughout 2026.
There really is so much to celebrate and look forward to at Hillsmeade!!
This is a reminder to put the following dates in your diaries as scheduled Curriculum Days for this year.
As always, TeamKids (OSHC) will be available on those days and throughout the school holidays.
Stay tuned for more details, but make sure you lock Friday 13th November in your calendars for our big fundraiser and one of the most memorable days of the year!!
