Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families, 

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday break. It has been wonderful to welcome the students back to the classroom, ready for another exciting term of learning.

This week, students thoroughly enjoyed participating in a Drama Incursion, where they developed their performance skills by bringing significant events from Australian history to life. Through drama and role-play, students explored the Gold Rush, the Eureka Stockade and the story of Ned Kelly, building their understanding of these important historical events in an engaging and interactive way.

We look forward to another fantastic term of learning and thank you for your continued support.

Learning for Year 4 in Term 3:

Religious Education:

This term, students have begun a new Religious Education unit, Concealed in the Old, Revealed in the New. Throughout the unit, students will explore the connections between the Old and New Testaments, discovering how God's promises in the Old Testament are fulfilled through the life, teachings and mission of Jesus in the New Testament. Students will engage with Scripture, reflect on key biblical events and deepen their understanding of God's ongoing relationship with His people. 

English:

Next week in English, Year 4 students will continue reading Storm Boy, exploring the novel's characters, themes and key events to strengthen their reading comprehension. They will also consolidate their note-taking skills by identifying and organising important information from a range of sources to support the planning and writing of an information report.

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, Year 4 students will consolidate their understanding of the distributive property of multiplication through a range of problem-solving activities. They will apply efficient multiplication strategies to solve number problems, explain their thinking, and build confidence in selecting the most effective strategy for different mathematical situations.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week, students will explore how actors use expressive and performance skills to communicate stories, ideas and meaning. They will observe and discuss dramatic performances, identify key drama techniques, and use appropriate drama vocabulary to describe how performers engage an audience. Students will record their observations and reflections in their Drama Maker's Journal, developing their understanding of how drama communicates meaning. 

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will explore handling signs, learning how Auslan visually represents the actions 'open' and 'put on'. Unlike English, where the same word can describe many different actions, Auslan shows each action differently depending on the object involved. For example, opening a door is signed differently from opening a jar because the movement mimics the real action. Students will learn how handling signs help depict actions in a visual way, developing their understanding of how Auslan uses movement to create clear and meaningful communication.

Social & Emotional Learning:

Next week, students will explore our school-wide expectations for safe and respectful behaviour. They will learn about appropriate physical contact, how to move safely and responsibly around the school, and the school's consequence cycle. Through discussions and practical scenarios, students will develop a clear understanding of how their choices contribute to a safe, respectful and positive learning environment for everyone.

Please see email with regard to fidget toys:

• Fidget Toys

  We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.
