At St Thomas the Apostle, we take a whole-school, preventative approach to bullying through our initiative, “Upstanding U Have the POWER.” Developed specifically for our school community, this approach focuses on building proactive behaviours in children and fostering a culture of respect, inclusion and responsibility. Research shows that one of the most effective ways to prevent bullying is to equip students with the skills, confidence and courage to be an upstander, someone who positively supports others and helps create a safe and welcoming environment for all.

During Weeks 1–5 of Term 3, students will revise each part of the framework through classroom learning, discussion, practical school-based scenarios and Scripture.
Our learning will be explored through a Catholic lens, helping students understand that being an upstander reflects Jesus’ call to love, protect and include others. Each POWER strategy will be connected to examples from the life and teachings of Jesus.
In Week 6, each year level will share their learning with the wider school community. Students will demonstrate what they understand about being an upstander, how they can use the POWER strategies, and why standing up for others matters.
We look forward to celebrating and sharing our students’ learning with you.
Parenting can be both rewarding and demanding. Amid the changing needs of our children and the many pressures of raising young people today, it can be easy to place our own wellbeing at the bottom of the list.
Coffee & Connect is an opportunity to slow down, enjoy a cuppa, and connect with other parents and carers from our school community. In our next Coffee & Connect, we'll chat about what it means to care for ourselves while caring for others, share ideas and experiences, and reflect on the small, everyday ways we can support our own wellbeing.
Whether you'd like to contribute to the conversation or simply come along to listen, everyone is welcome. We hope you'll join us for a relaxed morning of connection, conversation, and community.
