你 好 (ni hao)

We are very happy to welcome back all our students for an exciting Term 3!

Last Friday our Grade 5/6 children competed in the District Hooptime Competition at Dandenong Basketball Stadium. We entered two Future Stars teams, Boys and Girls and two Mixed Rookies teams. The children played amazing games considering we had five-a-side, which meant there were no substitutes available. Three of the teams were undefeated, and the fourth team only lost two games by a small margin. The children showed great sportsmanship, behaviour and persistence over a long day. Thanks to Amy Moore for coaching the girls' team and Jack Bell for coaching the boys' team.

In Physical Education lessons, the children in Grade 3-6 have begun preparing for the House Athletics Carnival to be held on Wednesday 19th August at Bill Sewart Athletics track in Nunawading. We have practised high jump in the Hall, long jump in the sandpit and relays and 100m sprints on the basketball courts. These sessions helped to assist the Grade 3 students in knowing how events are run and what to expect on Athletics Day.

For the Junior grades, in Foundation-Grade 2 we have focused on the skill of a two-hand strike using tennis and softballs, practising hitting off a Tee stand. We played a modified game involving running between bases at the end of each lesson, with children really improving their hand-eye coordination to successfully hit the ball off the tee.

We will start to finalise numbers for the Grade 4 Hooptime competition with upcoming trials during lunchtimes to decide on the number of teams to enter and at what level for the District event.
