Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,

A big thank you to all of our parents and carers who took the time to attend our Three-Way Conferences this week. It was wonderful to celebrate each student's achievements and discuss their learning goals for Term 3.

This week in Year 1, we continued developing our understanding of counting and place value with three-digit numbers. We learnt how to order three-digit numbers from highest to lowest, focusing on the place value position.

In English, we began exploring Jeannie Baker's book 'Window' and how illustrations are used to create characters, settings and events. As a class we used our comprehension skills such as visualising, predicting, connecting and questioning to piece together the story from a wordless book! We later explored the theme of urbanisation and how it has impacted the characters in our story.

During Writing, we started off the term with our Lightning Writes, and have continued these into Week 2! Using our mini whiteboards, we plan our characters, setting, beginning, problem and solution before starting our 10 minutes of writing. We then edit our work with a red pencil, helping us become independent writers!

In Guided Inquiry, we started our new unit, "How Has Life Changed Over Time?" Looking at communication in the past, students wrote their own letters and stained them, giving the appearance of an old, historical letter. It was amazing seeing the students use their creativity to jump into the past with their writing!

Reminders:

  • Foundation have their 100 days of school next Friday the 31st, and will be having their parade at 3:15pm sharp on the basketball courts! We hope to see you there.
