Our learning
The Prep students are learning how to expand simple sentences by adding adjectives. For example, the simple sentence "The dog ran" can be expanded to "The fluffy dog ran." Adding adjectives helps make their writing more interesting and helps readers create a clearer picture in their minds. Students can practise by choosing adjectives that describe size, colour, shape, or feelings to make their sentences more detailed and engaging.
We are also learning about possessions in phonics by using words that show ownership. We are practising how to add 's to a noun to show that something belongs to someone. For example, in the sentence "Sam's hat is blue," the hat belongs to Sam. We are exploring possession through stories, games, and writing activities, helping us understand how the apostrophe and s work together. This learning supports both reading and writing as the students begin to recognise and use possessive words correctly.
Show and tell
The Prep students are practising their speaking and listening skills through regular, weekly Show and Tell. They bring a special item, picture, or story from home and share it with the class, using clear voices and complete sentences. Students are learning to speak confidently in front of others, make eye contact, and explain why their item is important to them. They are also developing their listening skills by paying attention to their classmates, asking simple questions, and showing respect while others are speaking. Show and Tell helps build confidence, communication skills, and positive classroom relationships.
