5/6 News…

World Expo - Next Tuesday
We are excited to invite all family and friends to join us for our World Expo. The senior building will be open to all from 3.15pm next Tuesday.
The groups have been working so hard all term, and we are excited to see as many people there to join in the fun.
Donvale Democracy
The Grade 5/6 students participated in a special "Donvale Democracy" session, providing an authentic opportunity to explore how democratic processes influence decision-making within our community.
We were privileged to welcome the Member for Warrandyte, Honourable Nicole Werner, who spoke to students about her role in representing community members and contributing to decisions that impact the local area. Students engaged thoughtfully with Nicole's presentation, gaining a deeper understanding of democracy, leadership, and the importance of civic participation.
Following Nicole's speech, our Student Leaders presented a range of proposals and initiatives aimed at enhancing student experiences across Donvale Primary School. Students listened carefully to each proposal, asked insightful questions, and considered the potential benefits of each idea before casting their votes.
Students had the opportunity to make informed decisions and experience democracy in action. The session provided valuable learning around active citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and the importance of having a voice within a community.
We were extremely impressed by the maturity, respectful discussions, critical thinking, and enthusiasm demonstrated by our Grade 5/6 students throughout the session. It was wonderful to see students engaging so positively in a real-world democratic experience and recognising the impact that informed participation can have on their school community.
Ana & Emily's reflections on our Donvale Democracy:
On Tuesday, the grade threes, fours, fives and sixes gathered in the senior building, and the student voice leaders from all of these grades had the opportunity to present a bill at our first ever Donvale Democracy!
There were six bills: Free dress day once a term, new basketball and netball facilities, healthy food options at the canteen, sorting through lost property, permanent soccer goals and Donvale Dancers.
We also had the pleasure of Nicole Werner giving an introduction and listening to the bills. Next, everyone got to cast a vote. It was a fun session and we look forward to our next Donvale Democracy and find out which bills win!
Winter Round Robin
Just a reminder that our Winter Round Robin Gala Days are fast approaching. Students will be attending a range of venues on Thursday, 18 June and Thursday, 25 June.
Please ensure that payment and consent permission to leave the school grounds have been completed as soon as possible via Compass.
We are also seeking parent helpers to assist across our sports teams on the day. If you hold a current Working With Children Check and are available to help, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or Mr Rodger in the Sports Office. We would greatly appreciate your support.
