Congratulations to Our Basketball Teams! 🏀

Congratulations to ourfour basketball teams who competed in the Eureka Basketball Competition last Friday. Our students represented our school with enthusiasm, teamwork and great sportsmanship throughout the day.

A special thank you to Hamish P, a former Miners Rest Primary School student, who generously volunteered his time to umpire for the day. We greatly appreciate Hamish giving back to our school community and supporting our students.

We are also incredibly proud to share that Miners Rest Primary School was awarded the Spirit of Sport Award for the day! This is a wonderful recognition of the positive attitude, sportsmanship, teamwork and respect demonstrated by our students.

A fantastic achievement for our students and our school community, well done, Miners Rest! 🏀👏

On Friday the 14th of August, the A grade girls left in the morning to head to Buxton Minerdome to represent our school at the Eureka School Basketball. Our first game was at 9:55am and we played Luman Christi’s strongest team, but unfortunately we lost. Our next game we played St Columbus and we played very well as a team but we lost for the second time, next we had lunch and straight after, we were back out on the court. Emmaus School were a very strong team, they had some of the best Basketballers in the whole of Ballarat. Still, we showed amazing sportsmanship even though it wasn’t our teams level of Basketball. Our last game against St Francis Xavier and they were a very put together team, however we tried our hardest and still managed to get 6 points! At the end of the day, we were all tired so we rested for half an hour before getting on our way to walk to Selkirk Stadium to see the other Basketballers from Miners Rest. On the walk we sung songs, ate lollies and had so much fun even though we were tired. At Selkirk we watched the Boys B grade Grand Final but had to leave at half time to catch the bus back to school. I would like to thank Mr Brown and the organisers of the School Basketball.

On Friday the 14th August a group of selected Basketballers headed off to Selkirk Stadium and the Minerdome. When we got there we were really excited to play our first match. We lost against St Thomas More, scoring 12 points for the game. We lost our second match, again scoring 12 points. Then we had a 2 game break to relax and fuel up. It was time to play again but sadly we were unsuccessful. While waiting for our next match we shot some hoops. When we started our next match we were winning by approximately 8 points, we eventually tied with the opposition, but then they ended up winning the match. Over all, we had an amazing day and would like to thank Mr Brown and the other teachers that coached us.
