Year Five/Six News

This week in Reading, students have been working in book study groups, exploring a range of engaging texts and developing their reading comprehension skills. Students have been completing book responses and chapter summaries, focusing on identifying key events, important information, character development and making connections to the text.
In Writing, students have been busy creating their own narratives for the MRPS Writers’ Festival. Our focus has been on the theme “Lost Worlds”, which has sparked some incredibly creative and imaginative ideas. Students have loved developing their own characters, settings and storylines while experimenting with suspense, figurative language and engaging openings. It has been fantastic to see students so enthusiastic about writing and bringing their lost worlds to life!
In Maths, students have been developing their understanding of angles, percentages and discounts. Students have been using protractors to measure and identify different types of angles, while also applying their knowledge of percentages to real-life situations involving sales, discounts and money.
