Book Week!
The best time of the year, Book Week! Our students love dressing up, partcicipating in activities and reading lots and lots and lots of books.
The Emperor's Egg
On Monday, we read The Emperor’s Egg with Miss Moloney. It was a great book, and the values it showed were patience, being trustworthy, and knowing that good things come to those who wait.
My favourite part of the book was when Ren went to the Emperor and gave him the egg. He showed that it was boiled and couldn’t have been any dinosaur, as everyone else had a cool animal or dinosaur. So, he got to sit on the Emperor’s gold chair.
The task that we did was to imagine that if Ren’s egg did hatch, what would his animal or dinosaur look like? We also needed to decorate the outside of the egg.
Overall, we all had a very fun time, and the activity was amazing. Thank you, Miss Moloney!!!!

During the Book Week rotation, we read The Emperor’s Egg with Ms Moloney. This story shows kindness, honesty and responsibility.
The story was about how the Emperor needed someone to take his throne, so he ordered everyone over the age of five to participate. They all received an egg and had to come back a week later. Whoever had the coolest animal would get to take over the throne.
After about a week, everyone had their cool animals, except for one little boy named Ren. It was time to go back to the castle to crown the winner. Ren was the only one without a hatched egg, but it turned out that all the eggs had been boiled! Ren was the only person who told the truth.
After reading the book, we got an egg template and created our own creature. I created a lion with wings and a dragon with gold teeth. We decorated the outside with symbols representing all of its features.
We had such a fun time doing these rotations!

Dear Brocoli
The book is about Frank, a young boy who absolutely despises eating broccoli. After finding the dreaded vegetable on his dinner plate for the third time in a single week, a frustrated Frank decides to take matters into his own hands. Instead of complaining to his parents, he writes an angry, dramatic letter directly to the broccoli itself, demanding that it leave him alone and never return.
To Frank’s complete surprise, the broccoli writes back, and they become friends!
For the activity, we debated similar arguments to the ones in the book.

Book Week Parade
On Wednesday morning, we had the Book Week Parade. There were lots of very creative and awesome costumes, such as fairies, the Cat in the Hat, Matilda, Disney princesses and sporting characters. There were a bunch of cool songs and amazing dancing from the whole school.
This week, there have been Book Week rotations that have been really fun. I really enjoyed looking at everyone’s great costumes.

STEM
Year 5s have started their unit on air resistance in STEM. Students are learning about the terms force, drag, thrust, and streamline. The students observed different vehicles and what makes them fast, looking at the design of the Concorde plane and Formula 1 cars. It was then time to make paper planes and test which designs went the furthest and fastest!

Athletics
A huge congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 students who represented Sacred Heart at Athletics on Friday at Dunkin McKinnon!
Our students gave their best throughout the day, and we were so proud to see some fantastic results, including a few first-place finishes! More importantly, our Year 5 and 6 students demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship, encouraging their teammates, celebrating others and proudly representing our Sacred Heart family.
A big shout-out to Mr Jaynes for all his hard work in organising and running the day. We are incredibly grateful for the time and effort he put into making the day such a success. We love and appreciate all that you do for Sacred Heart.
Well done, Year 5 and 6 — you made us very proud! ❤️💙
