Celebrating our Middle School Book Week Competition Winners

Book Week was a wonderful celebration of stories, creativity and imagination in the Middle School, and our students embraced the opportunity to share their talents through a range of library competitions.

Our Short Story Competition challenged students in Years 5–8 to create an original story inspired by this year’s Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories. We were delighted by the creativity, imagination and storytelling skills demonstrated in the entries.

Congratulations to our Short Story Competition winners and runners-up:

YEAR 5

🏆 Winner: Audrey Y, The Song of the Lake - Audrey’s captivating fantasy followed Violet into a magical forest, with vivid imagery and personification bringing the natural world to life.

🥈 Runner-up: Eliza P, Piper to Melody - Eliza’s heartwarming story saw the spirit of music help Piper find the confidence to enter a singing competition, complemented by lovely illustrations.

YEAR 6

🏆 Winner: Sana M, The Taste of Every Word - Sana’s imaginative story explored the original idea of words having different tastes, with vivid descriptions, varied sentence structures and complex characters.

🥈 Runner-up: Zyrelle, The World in Silence - Zyrelle’s suspenseful story followed a character who could silence the world using a mysterious music box, with effective adjectives and onomatopoeia creating atmosphere.

YEAR 7

🏆 Winner: Balseerat D, The Silver Rebellion - Balseerat’s compelling dystopian story imagined a rebellion beginning through music, with strong similes, concise writing and careful editing creating a polished entry.

🥈 Runner-up: Norah A, The Symphony’s Note - Norah’s imaginative fantasy followed Harmony through a portal into a world where music notes came to life, brought vividly to life through creative descriptions and vocabulary.

YEAR 8

🏆 Winner: Sophie W, Every Stranger Has a Song - Sophie’s thoughtful narrative explored the connections formed through music, capturing the small moments behind a concert and the power of sharing a stage.

🥈 Runner-up: Nikita C, Symphony in Song - Nikita’s captivating story centred on a possessed piano and the bond between a grandmother and granddaughter, using varied sentence structures, onomatopoeia and a meaningful message to create impact.

A special congratulations goes to Sana M, whose story The Taste of Every Word was selected as the Overall Middle School Winner, earning a $20 book voucher and Sophie W Overall Runner Up.

Students also embraced our shorter creative competitions. Congratulations to our Transform a Musical Note into a book character winners: Tilly, Felicity and Aiden D, Colouring Competition winner Willow W. and Book Review Competition winner Alessia K.

It was wonderful to see so many students sharing their creativity and enthusiasm for books and storytelling throughout Book Week. A huge thank you to everyone who entered a competition and contributed to making Book Week such a vibrant celebration in our Middle School Library. We are incredibly proud of the imagination, effort and love of stories demonstrated by our students. Next week, we will turn our attention to the Senior School, sharing their Book Week highlights and announcing the winners of their competitions. We look forward to celebrating the creativity and enthusiasm of our older students and sharing some of the wonderful activities that took place across the Senior School.
