Year 3/4 Report
Term 3, 2026
This week, our Grade 3/4 students had an amazing time at camp, where they had the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting activities, including aeroball, rock climbing and archery. Students challenged themselves to try new things, showed courage and persistence, and encouraged their classmates along the way. It was wonderful to see so many students stepping outside their comfort zones, working together and, most importantly, having lots of fun!

This term in Reading, students have been exploring how pictures and words work together to tell a story. They have learned to look closely at illustrations, including book covers, to make predictions and find clues about characters, settings and what might happen in the story.
A highlight of the term was celebrating Book Week, where students enjoyed sharing their love of reading and stories. Our Book Week Parade was a wonderful celebration, with students having lots of fun dressing up as their favourite book characters and seeing the creative costumes of their classmates.

Throughout Term 3, our young authors have been using their imaginations and creativity to develop engaging pieces of writing. Students have focused on making their sentences more detailed by including information about when, where and why, as well as using descriptive language to make their ideas clearer and more interesting.
Students have also been busy selecting, organising and publishing their favourite pieces for our Writers’ Festival, where they had the opportunity to celebrate and share their wonderful work with others and parents.

Our Maths learning this term has focused on collecting, representing and interpreting data. Students developed their own questions and surveyed their classmates to collect real-life data. They then explored different ways to display their findings, including bar graphs, pie charts and line graphs.
Students also strengthened their ability to read and interpret graphs, answer questions using the information presented and develop suitable data questions when given a set of information. These activities encouraged students to think about how data can be organised and displayed to help us understand information more easily.
During our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions, students have been developing important skills around asking for help and supporting others. They have explored how to recognise whether a problem is small, medium or big, and when they can try to solve a problem themselves or need to seek help from a trusted adult.
Students have also identified the different people they can turn to for support and practised how to ask for help clearly and confidently. Through discussions, scenarios and storytelling, students have explored how they can notice when others may need help and respond in a kind, respectful and supportive way.
Our Inquiry learning this term has taken students on a journey exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and connections to Country. Students have developed their understanding of the importance of The Dreaming, Dreaming stories, and totems, and explored how these hold knowledge, meaning and connections to Country.
Students also investigated how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have used their knowledge of the land and environment to source food and create shelter. To bring their learning together, students created and delivered a presentation showcasing their knowledge and understanding from across the term, giving them an opportunity to share and celebrate their learning with others.
