Evening of Impact

On Monday 8th September, our Year 12 VCE VM students hosted their Evening of Impact, a night filled with fun, energy, and plenty of community spirit.

The event didn’t come together overnight. It was the result of a whole term’s worth of planning, with students working across all their VCE VM subjects to make it happen. In Literacy, they prepared advertising and communications, in Numeracy they managed budgets and stall costs, in PDS, they built stalls through teamwork and leadership. The Evening of Impact became a showcase of what applied learning can look like when everything comes together.

The trivia competition was also part of the night, with families, staff, and friends all competing in good fun. But the stalls around the Bulen building were just as popular, including basketball shooting, spin the wheel, duck fishing, face painting, plus a whole lot of sugary treats like fairy floss, strawberry cups, and lolly bags. The atmosphere was buzzing, and it was clear just how much effort the students had put into every detail.

Importantly, this wasn’t just about having a good time. The cohort chose five charities that matter deeply to them: Think Pink, Mission Australia, Outside the Locker Room, the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, and the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), and worked together to raise money and awareness for these causes. Their passion and commitment really came through on the night.

The Evening of Impact was more than a fundraiser. It was a chance for students to step up, take responsibility, and see what can be achieved when everyone works together towards a shared goal. With guidance from their VCE VM teachers, the Year 12s turned an idea into something that genuinely brought the school community together.

Our students should be incredibly proud, not just for the funds raised, but for the teamwork, leadership, and sense of purpose they showed. They’ve made a real impact!

Congratulations to our B Grade Debating team, Lilyana Stipkovic (Year 11), Prahalpa Suresh (Year 11) and Minahil Zaidi (Year 9) who have won their finals playoff debate against Haileybury College (Keysborough) and progressed through to the Octofinals, placing them in the top 16 teams out of over 350 across the state! This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to their teamwork, critical thinking, and dedication.

We also celebrate the success of our Year 12s, Jesse Barnett and Aish Anand, who competed in the Evatt Model UN competition, hosted here at the college this month. They have advanced to the Semi-Finals, placing them in the top 60 teams of more than 800 teams who competed statewide. Their ability to navigate complex global issues and represent their positions with confidence has been remarkable.

We are incredibly proud of these students for representing our school with excellence on such competitive stages.

Secondary Chess Championship Tournament

A small group of students from Kambrya College has achieved an outstanding result at the Secondary Chess Championship Tournament held at Haileybury College on 28th August 2025.

With only four Year 7 students and one Year 9 student representing our school, the team displayed incredible grit and talent to secure the Runner-up position against some of the strongest chess schools in Victoria. Their efforts were rewarded with 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in two categories, an achievement that drew special recognition at the award ceremony, where organisers commended Kambrya’s students for their fighting spirit and resilience.

A particularly inspiring highlight was our students’ victory against the highly regarded Nossal High School. Against older and more experienced opponents, including battles on the very top boards, our students fought with courage and determination, earning admiration not only from the organisers but also from their peers and competitors.

Well done to the following students:
