Library News – Term Highlights
It has been another exciting and busy term in the library, filled with creativity, celebration, and a whole lot of reading joy! Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks:
MakerSpace Magic
Our lunchtime MakerSpace activities continue to be a student favourite. The library has been buzzing with energy as students express their creativity and take home their own handmade items. One of the most popular sessions this term was decorating tote bags and pencil cases – a fun and practical activity that had students proudly showing off their unique designs. They also loved our scratchy holographic bookmark activity.
Book Week – “Book An Adventure”
Book Week is always the biggest event on our library calendar, and this year did not disappoint! With the theme “Book An Adventure”, our talented team member Elyse transformed the library entrance with a stunning adventure-inspired mural that captivated both students and staff. Each day was filled with activities and competitions, including scavenger hunts, “Blind Date with Adventure” book picks, Kahoot quizzes, and the ever-popular “Guess the Pages in the Stack” competition. Our very own “Book An Adventure” passport challenge encouraged students to complete daily activities and collect stamps to receive a special prize on completion – a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of reading. We would also like to thank our dedicated staff members who embraced Book Week and dressed up in costume to encourage a love of reading within our school community. Finally, we would like to congratulate our student major prize winners of our Book Week competitions – Lilly (Yr. 9) and Srivinaya (Yr. 8).
National School Library Day
During Book Week, we also marked National School Library Day – a time to advocate for, appreciate, and celebrate everything our library brings to our school community. We have created a special snapshot for this newsletter, showcasing the many ways our library is used and all we have achieved this year. As part of this snapshot, we also ran a staff and student survey, gathering wonderful feedback that highlighted just how much the library means to our community.
Father’s Day Creations
To finish the term, our MakerSpace sessions turned into a heartfelt Father’s Day celebration. Students crafted and decorated wooden key chains, handmade cards, and gift tokens to give to their fathers or significant male role models. The creativity and thoughtfulness poured into these gifts made the event truly special.
The library continues to be a place of creativity, adventure, and community – and we can’t wait to see what the next term brings!
Stay curious,
