Year 9 Darrabi/GIRLs Program News

Darrabi
This term in Darrabi, students participated in a wide range of activities.
As part of our recent activities, students engaged in a tree-planting initiative behind the school oval, where they had a fantastic time connecting with nature and contributing to a greener environment.
During lessons, students explored First Nations culture with a special emphasis on the Freedom Rides, enhancing their knowledge and respect for Indigenous history and viewpoints. To build on this, the class took a trip to the NGV, where they engaged with Indigenous art, symbols, and narratives. This visit provided a meaningful and immersive experience that complemented classroom discussions, deepening their cultural understanding through creative expression and meaningful conversation.
This term, we have created a partnership with Brentwood Park Primary, building positive relationships with Grade 1 students through regular visits, helping with reading, games, and classroom routines, whilst also supporting the learning environment. This had helped the younger students feel confident and supported, while giving the Year 9 Darrabi students a chance to grow as leaders and role models.
Sarah from World Vision visited to talk with the students about the issue of global poverty, explaining the work the organisation does to help communities in need. She also shared ways the students can get involved and make a positive impact in the world.
