Mr Jon Franzin

Dear Parents, Friends and Students of St Virgil’s,

Easter

As the Easter season approaches, it provides us with an opportunity to pause and reflect on its deeper meaning. At its heart, Easter is a celebration of hope, renewal, and new life.

For Christians, Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ — a powerful reminder of love, sacrifice, forgiveness, and the promise of new beginnings. More broadly, Easter invites us all to reflect on values that unite us as a community: compassion, kindness, reconciliation, and care for one another.

In the season of renewal, may Easter be a time of reflection, gratitude, and connection with family and friends.

Celebrating National Success

We are delighted to congratulate Finn and Hamish on their well‑deserved National Rowing Championship success. This outstanding achievement reflects not only their talent and hard work, but also their dedication, teamwork, and resilience.

We also extend our congratulations to the entire St Virgil’s rowing team and coaching staff on an incredibly successful national Rowing Championship campaign. The collective effort, commitment, and sportsmanship displayed by all involved was outstanding, and the results achieved are a testament to the strength of our rowing program. We acknowledge the dedication of coaches, support staff, families, and supporters whose encouragement and hard work underpin this success and thank them for the positive way they continue to represent our school community on the national stage.

Year 10 Interviews

The Year 10 student interviews have now concluded, conducted by Mr Lapolla and myself. We were both very impressed with the high level of engagement shown by the boys, as well as the maturity with which they reflected on their learning to date.

Students spoke thoughtfully about their personal goals for the year ahead, identifying both strengths and areas they intend to work on as they continue their learning journey. These conversations were encouraging and highlighted a strong willingness among the boys to take responsibility for their growth and development.

A Reminder: School Effectiveness Survey

Thank you to the many parents and carers who have already taken the time to complete the School Effectiveness Survey. Your feedback is highly valued and plays an important role in shaping our school’s priorities, planning, and ongoing improvement.

If you have not yet completed the survey, we strongly encourage you to do so. The survey only takes a short time and provides us with meaningful insights into what is working well and where we can continue to grow together. Every response contributes to ensuring the best possible outcomes for our students. Parents and carers are asked to complete the survey by close of business on Friday 3 April.

Edmund Rice Beyond Borders International Congress

I would like to advise parents and carers that I will be away during the final two weeks of term, attending the Edmund Rice Schools International Beyond Borders Congress for Senior Leaders and Principals in Uruguay and Argentina. This opportunity provides valuable professional learning and collaboration with Edmund Rice educators from around the world, supporting our ongoing commitment to Catholic education and global connection.

During this time, Daniel Lapolla will assume the role of Acting Principal. Daniel will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the school and can be contacted should any matters arise. I have every confidence in his leadership and thank him for his support.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support of our school community.

Best wishes for the week ahead and a Blessed Easter to all.
