Head of Junior School

Mrs Jo Messer

This week we have had some phone calls about our return to school after the Easter break. I can confirm the return to school day and date is Wednesday 8 April.

“Rest, Reflect, Rejoice: Easter Wishes to Our Community”

Easter is upon us. At this time we would like to extend our warmest wishes to all families in our community. The break provides us with an opportunity to take a break from school and spend valuable time with family. Often we can lose focus of the real meaning of Easter, instead the focus can be on how many Easter eggs we receive, or what flavour they are and how big.

Easter is a time of reflection, renewal, and hope. At its heart, Easter reminds us of the enduring values of love, sacrifice, compassion, and new beginnings. It encourages us to slow down, appreciate what truly matters, and reconnect with one another.

We hope this break provides families with moments of rest, joy, and togetherness — whether that be through shared meals, outdoor adventures, quiet reflection, or simply enjoying each other’s company. It is also a time to reflect on the deeper meaning of Easter and the message of hope and renewal it brings to people around the world.

We wish all our families a safe, peaceful, and happy Easter break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the term ahead.

Holy Week

This week at the Junior Campus ,we have been celebrating Holy Week. Year 5 presented Palm Sunday on Monday, Year 1 and 2 classes presented The Last Supper and Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane respectively and Year 6 presented the Stations of the Cross.

I have enjoyed the variety of presentations as well as the deep understanding and respectful learning that has been taking place among our boys in Religion classes.

Open Day

This week we greeted many prospective new families to the school on Open Day. Our Year 6 boys, as is the tradition, took tours of the school, as they are such wonderful ambassadors of the College. Here is some feedback from some of the families who attended.

‘Please extend our sincere thank you to the Grade 6 Boys who gave our tour today, they did so well! They were so confident and engaging, the tour was filled with conversation and just the right amount of digestible information and no question was too difficult. Every door was held so politely for each guest and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.’

Another family said:

‘It was lovely to meet you & take a tour of the Junior school this morning. I just wanted to say thank you, the boys did a great job showing us around! It’s a lovely school.’

Japanese Day: Friday 10 April

On Friday 10 April we will once again celebrate Japanese Day at the Junior Day. It will be a day filled with wonderful hands-on activities and games. All boys may wear their sports uniform or something Japanese-themed, for example, wearing a kimono, dressed as a ninja or their favourite pokemon character.

Monday 13 April: Project Compassion Day

On Monday 13 April we will be culminating our fundraising and awareness around Project Compassion — Caritas Australia’s fundraising arm. Please bring back your Project Compassion box by that day.  The plan for the day is:

  1. Wear purple.

  2. 9am: House coin lines with the money from all Project Compassion boxes.

  3. Recess: Caritas Cup: an annual soccer game with our Year 6s on the futsal court in House Teams

  4. Lunch: Class Stalls: money going towards Project Compassion

  5. 2pm: 30 minute Walk for Water

Bethlehem House

It is important not to forget others less fortunate over our Easter break. Our Mini Vinnies boys proudly brought hot cross buns to the men at Bethlehem House. Bethlehem House provides 24-hour support for men experiencing homelessness.

Thank you to our P&F team for donating the hot cross buns.

A reminder: Help Us Keep Access Clear and Safe

Please be mindful not to park over the driveway entrance to the Junior School or within the Cathedral car park entrances. Over the past week, we have had several instances of cars being parked in these areas, obstructing access and creating safety concerns.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our community safe and ensuring smooth access for all families.
