Welcome to Senior Years' Evening: Choice, Purpose and Possibility

Thank you to those families who braved the weather and joined our Senior Years' Evening last week. The Senior Years of schooling mark an important turning point. For students in Years 11 and 12, learning begins to feel different — not because the support disappears, but because purpose comes into sharper focus. Subjects are no longer just part of a timetable; they become stepping stones toward futures that are as individual as the students themselves.

Our evening and focus were about possibility. It’s about recognising that there is no single “right” pathway, only the right pathway for each young person. Whether a student is drawn toward university study, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, the workforce, or a combination of these, the Senior Years are designed to open doors — not close them.

I hope students and parents were able to get some great intel from our Subject expo and could see first-hand how fortunate we are to have the dedicated teachers staff we do.

As boys navigate the choices around pathways, I encourage them to reflect on the below topics.

  • What is your priority?
  • How hard are you prepared to work to reach your goals?
  • Where am I known and seen?

EREA Deputy Principals’ Conference: A Catholic School, in the Edmund Rice Tradition

This week, Deputy Principals from across Edmund Rice Education Australia gathered in Hobart for a highly productive and collegial professional learning opportunity. The gathering was firmly grounded in the charism of Edmund Rice, reaffirming our shared commitment to education that is relational, inclusive and centred on the dignity of each young person.

Across the sessions, there was a strong focus on data-informed practice, with rich discussion around how evidence can be used meaningfully to support student wellbeing, engagement and learning growth. Importantly, data was consistently framed not as an end, but as a tool to better know our students and respond with intention and care.

The gathering provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, shared reflection and professional dialogue, strengthening connections across EREA schools and reinforcing our collective mission. The insights and strategies explored will continue to inform initiatives that support improved outcomes for students in our care.

I would like to formally acknowledge and thank our wonderful staff and students who contributed to the two-day conference.
