Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the midway point of Term 2, I’m pleased to share some of the many highlights that continue to shape our vibrant and faith-filled community.
Catholic Schools Week – Celebrating Our Staff
Catholic Schools Week provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the mission and identity of Catholic education. This year, we are proud to celebrate two outstanding members of our McCarthy staff. Georgia Mackson received the Spirit of Catholic Education Award for an Outstanding Early Career Teacher, recognising her passion, dedication, and impact in the classroom. Cate Allen was honoured with the Staff Catholic Spirit Award for her ongoing service, faith leadership, and commitment to the life of the College. We congratulate both Georgia and Cate on this well-deserved recognition.
Staff Spirituality Day – "Pilgrims of Hope"
On Monday 26 May, all staff from the four Catholic schools in Tamworth came together for a special Staff Spirituality Day. The theme for the day, "Pilgrims of Hope," encouraged us to reflect on our shared mission as educators in faith and to renew our commitment to walking with students and each other in hope and purpose. It was a rich day of prayer, learning, and connection across our Catholic school communities.
National Reconciliation Week – "Bridging Now to Next"
During National Reconciliation Week, our College community engaged in reflections and classroom activities aligned with this year’s theme: "Bridging Now to Next." This theme calls us to honour the past, act in the present, and build a better future together. As a Catholic school, we are deeply committed to walking alongside our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families as we strengthen understanding, truth, and justice in our community.
College Athletics Carnival – House Spirit in Action
The recent College Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and strong house spirit. Blessed with beautiful weather, students took part in a range of track and field events, enjoying the chance to compete, challenge themselves, and most importantly, have fun. It was wonderful to see so many students giving their best and striving to earn maximum points for their house. Thank you to all staff and volunteers who made the day run so smoothly.
Excellence Across the College
Our students continue to represent the College across many facets of school life. From Performing Arts and Creative Arts to Netball, Rugby League, Soccer, and Public Speaking, McCarthy students are displaying remarkable talent and teamwork. We also celebrate the success of those involved in the Royal Easter Show, where students proudly represented our College and region. These achievements are a testament to their commitment, the support of families, and the dedication of our staff who make these opportunities possible.
A New Pope – Pope Leo XIV
The Catholic Church has welcomed a new leader in Pope Leo XIV. His appointment marks a new chapter in the life of the global Church, with early messages focused on unity, dialogue, and the importance of faith in action. We will continue to pray for Pope Leo as he takes on this important role and guide our students in learning more about his vision and leadership.
New Bishop for the Diocese of Armidale – Bishop Peter Murphy
We are also excited to welcome Bishop Peter Murphy as the newly appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Armidale. Bishop Murphy brings with him a strong pastoral presence and a deep commitment to Catholic education. We look forward to his visits to our school and to working together as we continue our shared mission of faith and learning.
Thank you for your ongoing support of McCarthy. It is a blessing to work in partnership with you in nurturing the growth and potential of each student in our care.
Warm regards,
Michael Whitton
College Principal
