Our Students Engage with Parliament at Regional Roadshow
McCarthy Catholic College students recently had the unique opportunity to participate in a Parliamentary Regional Roadshow, hosted by the NSW Legislative Council at the West Tamworth League Club on Thursday, 22nd of May 2025.
The NSW Legislative Council initiated these roadshows in 2024 to celebrate the Council's Bicentenary. Following the success of last year's events, the roadshows are bringing Parliament to six new locations across regional NSW. These events have been incredibly well-received, highlighting the eagerness of young people to be heard and engage in the democratic process.
The roadshow offered students two key opportunities to participate: a Public Speaking Competition and a Youth Forum.
The Youth Forum was designed as an engaging event for students to discuss issues important to them, such as effective leadership, local and global challenges, and their vision for the future. Students were encouraged to come prepared for a lively discussion with parliamentary members and their peers. We are proud to acknowledge the students who represented our school and engaged in this important civic dialogue: Molly Taylor, Camdyn Cronje, Riley Miller, Sanza Arzal and Matt Manzano.
The Public Speaking Competition is a state-wide competition open to students in Years 10 to 12. It consists of six regional rounds across NSW. At the regional event, students presented a pre-prepared six-minute speech on one of six given topics, competing against peers from other schools We congratulate Sanza Arzal for representing McCarthy Catholic College in the Public Speaking Competition. Sanza spoke on the compelling topic, "You miss 100% of shots you don't take".
Congratulations once again to Molly Taylor, Camdyn Cronje, Riley Miller, Matt Manzano, and Sanza Arzal for their enthusiastic participation and for representing our school at this significant regional event!
