Artists of the Week

This term, the College will continue celebrating the creativity, talent and dedication of our students across the Visual Arts through the Artist of the Week initiative.

Below is a summary of the incredible student artists who have been highlighted over the past few weeks, along with comments from their teachers about their work.

Week 4 – Finlay and Tujiro

Yujiro Sasaki (left) and Finlay Picking (right) showed fantastic teamwork and passion in making their drop scones look amazing! 

Week 5 – Tamia Jung-Phelan

Portraiture exploring self identity and growth.

Week 6 - Maggie Troup

A fabulous experimental artwork produced by Maggie Troup. The Year 9 “Imagine, Plan & Create” art class have been exploring festivals, in particular the Mexican “Day of the Dead”. This festival is famous and is celebrated once a year, celebrating the joy of life and the importance of remembering those no longer around. Maggie’s artwork is both colourful and relates to the overall themes explored.

Week 7 - Malek Marouff, Phoebe McLaughlin and Deon Curelusa (not present at the presentation)

The Artists of the Week are the three winners of the Mural Design Competition. Well done on creating incredible art work for the mural we are creating in the Performing Arts building. The theme for the Mural is: The Heartbeat of the Performing Arts: Where stories find a voice, music finds a rhythm, and every student finds the confidence to shine.

Week 8 - Ray Kagaya

In Year 11 Visual Communication Design, students have been working through Unit 2 AOS 1: Design, Place and Time. Students were challenged to design a reading room for children in a specific location, with their designs reflecting the architectural styles and characteristics of their chosen place. Ray selected Tiergarten Park in Berlin, Germany, as the setting for his reading room. Here are some of Ray’s fantastic process pages showcasing his work and development throughout the project. Well done, Ray!

Week 9 - James Burton

James is currently working on the 3D printed key tag project in Y8 Technology class. His pizza-shaped key tag is a fun and creative design, especially with the removable pepperoni component, which adds an interesting interactive feature. He has put great effort into developing his ideas and should be proud of the creativity and attention to detail he has shown.

Week 10 - James Trezise

This term year 8 Media students researched, planned and took a photo in the genre of their choice. James Trezise's final photography piece was absolutely phenomenal. For his photo he used shutter speed at around 15 seconds to let enough light in to see the stars but not too long that the stars looked blurred. He took this photo at Sorrento Back Beach at Coppins Lookout. The camera he used to take the photo was a Sony Alpha 7 III mirrorless camera with a Sony FE 24mm f/1.4GM prime lens. Well done James!
