Assistant Principal’s Update

Another big term is now (almost) behind us, and I’m sure our entire community is looking forward to some R & R. A busy term, a challenging term, but a largely successful term.

NAPLAN Results

Our most recent NAPLAN results were released early term three, with families receiving individual student results in the mail. While we don't put too much weight on any single set of results, it was pleasing to see improvement across all measures. In particular, it was really pleasing to see so many students demonstrating exceptional growth across one or more areas, a testament to their hard work here at Fitzroy, with the guidance and direction of some expert teachers. Well done to all students who participated.

Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences

Progress reports are out, and we're looking forward to recognising those students who have maintained great reports or demonstrated growth at our end of term assembly. We also held our Parent-Teacher Conferences, and it was wonderful to see and hear so many positive conversations happening about student learning, progress and goal setting.

Flying Bookworm Visit

Flying Bookworm visited to perform Romeo and Juliet for our Year 9 students, giving them a taste of all the drama Shakespeare has to offer — death, romance, and some questionable guidance from religious leaders included. The excursion also gave our junior campus students the chance to spend time at the senior campus, run in conjunction with Collingwood College to help build the relationships that will carry through to Year 11.

Year 9/10 Pathways

It's been a big stretch of future planning for Year 10, who completed their VCE course counselling panels, with plenty of great conversations about pathways and career ideas. Year 9 also had their Morrisby interviews, prompting some interesting thinking about what's next.

Assemblies and House Games

Our Year Level Assemblies saw a number of student awards presented, along with House Games during advisory as part of our expanded house competition. Some fine/interesting art, some fierce competition, a lot of fun - thanks Jess for the work you have put into the Advisory program.

Farewell (for now) Margaret

The keener eyes among our readership may have noticed the article title change from ‘Assistant Principals Update’ to ‘Assistant Principals Update’. We would like to wish Margaret Doucas all the best as she has decided to extend her leave until the end of 2027. While she will be greatly missed around the halls and corridors of the FHS campus, I’m sure her family are elated to have her at home to support them. And then there was one (me).

Have a happy holiday, see you in term four.
