Supreme Court Excursion

On 5th May, our Year 11 Legal Studies class visited the Supreme Court of Victoria.

In Legal Studies, we have just finished our unit on criminal law, which has been fascinating and a really informative topic of study.  This study led our class to the city for this engaging and unique court experience.

During our time at the Supreme Court, we were incredibly lucky to meet with Justice James Gorton (a Supreme Court Judge at the Court).  We were able to ask him all of our questions regarding law, court etiquette, personal pathways, etc.

While spending time with Judge Gorton, we were able to explore the courtroom by sitting in the jury seats, sitting where the prosecution and defence teams sit, and really being able to engage in our surroundings.

Additionally, we were super lucky to be able to learn from watching a real court procedure, in which we analysed the hearing and observed the interactions in the courtroom.

Overall, this was one of the most interesting and unique school excursions I have been on, and I feel that I speak for the class in saying that we thoroughly enjoyed and learned so much from visiting the Supreme Court.
