Year 7 Students Take the Lead in Robotics Programming!
This term, our Year 7 Robotic Systems students stepped into the world of technology, learning to program robots as part of our innovative STEM curriculum.
Students have made impressive strides in understanding and applying the fundamentals of robotics and coding using a block-based coding platform. What began as a group of curious learners has grown into a cohort of confident young engineers capable of programming their own robots to move, sense, and think. They learned how to use ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles and line follower sensors to detect cliffs and follow lines. A key emphasis of the course was developing computational thinking, breaking down problems, identifying patterns, and designing logical sequences of instructions.
Students are encouraged to join the Robotics Club to challenge themselves further. This year, Glen Eira Robotics teams will participate in three RoboCup Junior Competitions: Melbourne Regional, Victorian State, and National.
Quotes from the classroom:
‘’I thought programming robots would be a lot more complex, but starting with basic code helped me grasp the concept while having fun.’’
“Everything about coding robots is magical, getting it wrong and trying to figure out how to fix it, the coding skills we learnt, and the satisfaction of getting something right. And the feeling of having a robot that was yours, that you could name and code, was amazing!”
“It was one of the most fun topics we have done so far this year in robotics, and I’m looking forward to the next CAT.”
“Robotic Systems is by far the subject that piqued my interest the most, and I hope I can continue to advance in this subject and build my skills.”
