From the Principal Team

Subject Selection and Course Counselling

Current students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 will soon be selecting their subjects for 2026.

There will be a range of resources and times available to support students and families with this process, including assemblies, online information sessions for parents, our subject expo, online subject handbooks, as well as workshops provided during class time.

Our goal is to support our students to make the best decisions about their subject selections, to support their career path of choice beyond Glen Eira College.

More information will be available shortly to students and parents.

The course counselling process will be overseen by myself, Jeff Micallef (Leader of Senior School) and Chris Kotsonis (Careers and Pathways Coordinator).

Term 3 Student Led Learning Conferences

After feedback from staff and families, we will be replacing our Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews, previously scheduled as two half day events, with a single day of Student Led Learning Conferences, for all students between Years 7 and 12.

These will be conducted on Thursday 28th August. They will be held online via the WebEx platform.

Students will be expected to attend and lead the discussion at these conferences, through goal setting strategies and scaffolds that will be presented to them in the lead up to the conferences.

No formal classes will be running at school, however, supervision options will be made available for parents upon request, between the hours of 9am and 3:07pm.

Students will be set work to complete at home on this day. It is not a student free day as students will be expected to complete work at home, including preparation for their student led learning conferences.

More information will be available in early Term 3.

Professional Practice Day

As advertised in previous editions of our newsletter, Tuesday 17th June is a whole staff Professional Practice Day. This is a student free day.

Professional Practice days provide teachers with release from their scheduled duties (all duties which would have been otherwise scheduled, including teaching) to focus on the improved delivery of high quality teaching and learning.

Schools may hold the professional practice day on the same day for all teachers, which is the model we have elected to follow at Glen Eira College. It has been scheduled as a student free day.

Students who are undertaking a VCE Unit 3/4 subject will be required to attend school for the GAT, being held on this day. Further information about the GAT will be provided to students by the Senior School Team.
