News from One/Two

Literacy

We have continued working with two-syllable words by clapping and breaking words into parts to help us hear each syllable. This is helping us read and spell longer words with more confidence. We are also starting to notice how each part of the word can change the vowel sound, which is helping us grow as more confident readers and writers.

In Writing, we have been learning about informative texts. We have been exploring how to share facts clearly and organise our ideas so they are easy for others to understand. As part of this, we have been writing about the Bardi seasons from the ‘Ask Aunty Seasons’ book, learning about the different times of year and what makes each one special. You will see more of this at the assembly next week!

Maths

As we progress into the next stage of our learning, we have continued using 100s charts to strengthen our understanding of number patterns, including filling in missing numbers and completing number puzzles. We have also been practising finding one more and one less, as well as continuing to write numbers correctly. Through these activities, we are developing a stronger understanding of the value of each place value and how each digit represents a different amount depending on its position.

Here we were able to identify misisng numbers on a number line and apply one more or one less to two digit numbers.

Inquiry

Over the past two weeks, we have been continuing to build on our personal strengths and our wall is becoming so bright and colourful with our effort bricks.

This week we have been learning about how to resolve and manage conflict, whether it's in the yard, in the classroom, or in our outside communities. Students have been role-playing different scenarios that might make them feel frustrated, worried, upset, overwhelmed etc., and we have been learning how to respond in a calm and respectful manner.
