Exploring the Kulin Nations Seasonal Calendar
This term, students across BPPS are learning about the Kulin Nations Seasonal Calendar, a rich and ancient way of understanding the rhythms of the land. Unlike the four European seasons, the Kulin Nations recognise six distinct seasons, each marked by changes in plants, animals, weather, and the movement of people.
Right now, we are in Guling (Orchid) Season, a time of blooming wildflowers and warming days.
Through this learning, students are deepening their connection to Country and gaining insight into Indigenous knowledge systems that have guided life on this land for thousands of years.
It’s a meaningful way to honour the wisdom of the Traditional Custodians and embed First Nations perspectives into our everyday learning in an immediately relatable way.
