Athletics Day: Three Schools, One Community

There are days in a school year that feel bigger than the timetable. Days where the books close, the runners go on, the music starts, and the whole community gets a chance to come together. This year marked our inaugural Athletics Day, the first time our three schools have come together for this event, and what a fantastic beginning it was.

Across the day, it was wonderful to see students from all three schools come together as one community, competing, supporting, laughing and celebrating everything that school sport can be. From the track events to the field events, students gave it their best, whether they were chasing a ribbon, having a go for their house, or simply stepping outside their comfort zone and giving something new a crack.

The atmosphere had a real festival feel. The DJ had the tunes going, and it was great to see some old-school classics including the Nutbush get students and staff moving. The sausage sizzle was also a clear highlight, with a line that suggested we may have been serving one of the greatest sausages ever packed into bread.

Away from the main events, the novelty games brought plenty of smiles and friendly competition. Whether it was students testing their skills, having a laugh with friends, or getting involved in games like Jenga, quoits and cornhole, there was a genuine buzz across the day. The house areas also gave students a chance to relax, chat with friends, make new connections and enjoy the day in their own way.

A special mention must also go to the staff and student relay, where the staff showed that the old dogs still have a little speed left in the legs, taking out a memorable win. It was all in good fun, but there may have been just enough competitive spirit to make it count.

Most importantly, the inaugural Athletics Day was full of smiles, encouragement and good times. It was a reminder that sport is not just about results. It is about participation, connection, confidence, teamwork and creating memories.

A huge thank you to all students who got involved and contributed to the day, and to the staff who helped make the event run so smoothly. Days like this do not happen without people giving their time, energy and support.

Well done to everyone involved in making our first Athletics Day such a positive celebration of school sport and community. It has certainly set the tone for what we hope will become a much-loved annual event.
