Principal's Report

I often find Term 2 to be the most challenging term in a school. The days get shorter and colder, assessments start to pile up, the bad habits that we promised ourselves we weren’t going to fall back into at the start of the year have reemerged and the summer break feels like a million miles away. On top of all that, Term 2 is the powerhouse term of learning, where the proverbial rubber hits the road.

It’s during Term 2 that we are well and truly invested in the classes that we are doing, we have found the rhythm and we understand what is expected of us and we get all of the big assessments done. In term 2 students really have the opportunity to challenge themselves to produce great work and extend their learning which is why we end the term with a semester showcase, to bring all of this great work to life and to share it with our community. To give us the opportunity to reflect on the hard work that has gone into the past 6 months of learning and consider just how far we have come.

Whilst the students have been busy with their learning, the teaching staff have been working behind the scenes on what the future of Fitzroy High School is going to look like. We have spent time exploring a new curriculum model that will allow for students to engage more deeply with their passion and interest whilst providing them with additional extension opportunities. We are now moving into the planning stage for bringing this new model to life in 2027 and the second half of the year will be spent building our new elective program for Years 7 - 8 and 9-10. 

I look forward to seeing you at the end of semester showcase on the last Thursday of term and I wish all our students and families a happy winter break.
