Terrific Times in Year Two

On Wednesday afternoon, we had our Year 2 Stay Late and it was fantastic to see such a great turnout! The children took part in our very own Potato Commonwealth Games competing as Scotland, England, New Zealand and Canada. We had lots of fun with a potato dance off challenge, potato bowling, hula hoop throw and shot put.

It was a very close competition, with only a few points separating the teams! After lots of teamwork, cheering and friendly competition, Scotland came out on top and were crowned our Potato Commonwealth Games champions!

We finished the evening with pizza and a movie, which was a lovely way to wind down after an afternoon of activities. The Stay Late was also a great opportunity for the children to practise being comfortable staying at school for a longer period of time as we prepare for our upcoming camping experience in future years. It was wonderful to see the children having fun, working together and enjoying the experience! Thank you to all the teachers and learning support staff that helped out with the afternoon.

On Thursday, we enjoyed an exciting Robot Incursion! We explored a range of different materials, discussing what objects are made from and how different materials can be manipulated and used for different purposes.

The children had the opportunity to play a variety of hands on games, including using magnets to move objects, as well as taking apart and rebuilding a train and a robot. There was lots of problem solving, experimenting and discussion throughout the session.

You can continue these conversations at home by looking at everyday objects and discussing what they are made from, why that material has been chosen and how it can be changed or manipulated. As we look towards the end of the term, the children will have the opportunity to design and build their very own robots. We are looking forward to seeing their creative ideas come to life and discovering the different materials they choose to use and why!
