The Search for the Missing Time Capsule

Could there be a hidden piece of Brighton Secondary College history waiting to be uncovered?

Three determined students – Neo (Year 9), Lucas (Year 9) and Clement (Year 8)have embarked on a mission to locate a long-lost time capsule believed to be buried on the school grounds near the Discovery Building.

The mystery began after the team discovered a reference in the 2005 Voyager yearbook, which mentions that a new time capsule was buried alongside an older capsule. The only problem? No one seems to know exactly where either capsule is located!

Armed with a metal detector, a spade and plenty of enthusiasm, the students have begun carefully searching the area. While there was one exciting cry of “EUREKA!”, the discovery turned out to be… a PVC pipe rather than the missing capsule.

Although the time capsule remains elusive, the search has already uncovered some fascinating artefacts, including several old coins, a vintage hat pin and even a Sunnyboy icy pole wrapper – a nostalgic find from a product discontinued in 2016.

The search is far from over and we’re calling on our school community for help. If you attended Brighton Secondary College around 2005, were involved in burying the time capsule, or have any memories, photographs or clues about where it might be located, we’d love to hear from you. Even the smallest detail could help solve this 20-year-old+ mystery and uncover a fascinating snapshot of our school’s history.

We look forward to sharing updates as the search continues, and hopefully celebrating the moment when the elusive time capsule is finally found!
